Albany, Georgia Legion Riders Post 30 participated in a 1,000 black balloon release in support of our
nations POW/MIA’s for all wars.  The event was held at Veterans Park in downtown Albany, GA.  This event
was held in conjunction with the same event for Legion Riders, Post 627 from Newburgh Heights, Ohio.

The event began with opening remarks by American Legion Post 30 Commander, and Assistant Director
of Legion Riders Ray Humphrey, followed “by the numbers” on POW/MIA’s by Nick Nicholson.  Leo
Harrison sang a song of tribute to the POW/MIA’s that he wrote and has performed since 1988.  Monroe
Comprehensive High School Air Force Junior R.O.T.C., under the direction of LTC Ted Wright, presented
and retired the colors.

After Leo sang, the balloons were released during which a 21 gun salute was fired from three Civil War
cannons.  Ted Wright played “Retreat” on a bugle to end the program.

We had good media coverage for the event from the following:

WALB Channel 10 NBC affiliate

WFXL Fox 31

Albany Herald

Also attending was 2nd Congressional District Congressman Sanford Bishop (D) Georgia.

We look forward to this becoming an annual event.  The weather today was fantastic for this event and
we hope our friends from Post 627, Newburgh Heights, OH had the same.
